Hi! I want to put myself a linear actuator on the sliding gate to the cottage. I looked in the internet, there are a lot of offers and the prices are very different. Maybe there are people here who understand this and can advise me what type of actuator is better, manufacturer and where to buy? I will be very grateful.

Out of curiosity, why do you need an actuator? Why not just 2 switches, for when its open and closed?
I thought you would only need an actuator to monitor the gate in any position between open and closed.

If you do want to monitor the gate in between open and closed then how about putting an encoder on the motor, to monitor the position, rather than a linear actuator.

We're opening up our awesome forums to the world and the smartest a few members can be is to come up with some borderline racist remarks.

Not good enough.

Warnings dished out.

Keep the thread polite and on-topic. Help the guy out, or just leave the thread alone. And don't ever join in with others when they're dishing out racism. You're better than that.

In this instance, I think the best method would be a rack and pinion type actuator. Most powered access companies should be able to advise.
I would not recommend a DIY type of approach to this as there are some serious safety issues to consider.

Every year, several children are killed by similar types of gate, by becoming trapped when they are opening or closing.
Worst case can be decapitation if the gate has bars or openings a small head can get through.

Please seek assistance from a local company that specialises in such types of gate automation.

The OP hasn't been back since his last post...
I wonder if he will come back.

Tend to find with overseas member their daytime doesn't match ours. It was posted late so maybe when he's up he will reply.

But if you guys have put him off I'm gonna hit the wall. This isn't the way.

Not sure how you've managed to not get a warning to be fair pal.

It's the guys who follow you that end up caught out.

Maybe there's something to be learnt there. Not sure.

I'm super busy trying to get tilers business in. And I'm having to head over here to deal with knobs again.

I wish I'd get called over for other reasons.
