Hi everyone,

Im a newbie, and its the first time ive been part of a forum and first time ive ever posted a thread. So i appologise if its in the wrong place.

Im 27 years old and have been working as an electricians mate for over 2 years. I pretty much know everything as I have been taught very well. I have tried to get into colleges for years now, but they always say full.
I am getting older now and just want to be qualified. I am thinking of doing an Intensive course.
I dont want to do te Domestic Electricians course as I do commercial and some Industrial work too. So I I think I need to do the 2330 course. I have found 2 companys which price ÂŁ3995 for level 2 and ÂŁ2995 for level 3, thats ÂŁ7000 which is a lot! The sites are Ableskills adn tradeskills4u. Does anyone know of any others?

The courses currently take 32 weeks in total.

I have also read that if you have enough experience, you can go straight to level 3, is that true? Can I just do the level 3 course and still be a qualified electrician?

Also, is it possible to just take the exams without doing the courses?

Hello and welcome.ÂŁ7000 sounds a hell of a lot. I took the college route and it cost me about ÂŁ2300. That was 2330 L2, L3, 17th and 2391 over 3 years. I know that colleges are always over subscribed and so this makes it hard to get in.

I don't think you can go straight onto L3 and to be honest I don't think you would want to. The courses are quite involved. Same with the exams, I wouldn't have thought many people could do the exams without the courses, otherwise I think we'd all take the exams and save a shedload.:):)

Thank you so much for your reply.

It is a lot more cheaper to go the college route. But I can never get in. I have tried for thee years, I could be qualified by now. I have applied earlier and earlier each year to get there first but it seems like they just want the youngsters. Last year I applied for colleges. Southgate College wrote to me and said they where full. So I took some work up by the coast. Then they called me and said someone had dropped out and there was a space available. They told me to come down for the last interview day. So I did, I came back done the test and was doing the interview, and the interviewer said I was accepted but there was no space for me, and asked me why did I come. They said I was a good applicant because of my experience and said they will try to fit me in, but never did! A waste of a days money!

I am trying to debate what to do, whether try for college again and qualify at 30, (if I get in!) or take the intensive option for almost double the price and get double my wage for 2 years earlier. I am subing from a company, the boss pays 70 for mates and 140 for sparks for day work. (for bigger jobs we get 100 and sparks get more too) So I probably could make my money back in the 1st year.

I dont know....Its still a lot of money.

Seems like there is a qualification in 32 weeks or 3 years nothing in between.

Are there any other courses that you guys know of that are quicker than 3 years?
