Morning

I am mature student, I have applied to do a one year intensive Electrical installation course through a local college.

I am qualified to HND level in my current occupation. However, it is a niche occupation.

The course learns students

Unit 1: Health and Safety
Unit 2: Electrical Principles (Stage 1)
Unit 3: Application of Health and Safety and Electrical Principles (Stage 2)
Unit 4: Electrical Installation, Theory and Practice

This will lead to City & Guilds (2330-01) Level 2.

Would I be able to obtain work within the industry as an Electricians mate or a Junior Electrician with this qualification?

Is this qualification worth studying towards in the current climate?

This would form part of ongoing study to higher qualifications. I know NVQ’s are work based qualifications, without employment in the industry I would be unable to obtain these qualifications.

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi AP1,

I still think it is worth while becoming an electrician, either domestic or industrial. The current climate
won't last forever and then everybody's crying out for electricians.

Qualification wise I believe NVQs through an apprenticeship have a higher rank on the job market than
C&Gs but I might be wrong.

Your qualifications should be sufficient enough to be an electricians mate.:)
