Hi,

In my bedroom I have an internet / phone line plug on the wall (what ever it's called - the one where you plug in your internet router or phone line to get connected)

It's not a 'live' socket anymore and I am wanting to know how much it would cost to have a sparky come over and make it live so I can use it for either internet use or phone line?

I live in a bungalow so if the sparky needs to re-wire then it wont be too much of a job or expensive (hopefully) but all comments are appreciated

I live in Nottingham so anyone around this area feel free to give me a quote (if possible on line)

Cheers, Charlie

Sorry miss read the OP.

But still the same get yourself a little kit and do it, it's pretty easy. A sparks couple of hours 50-75 pounds including material. But virtually impossible to say without seeing the job

Sounds like it has been disconnected from the master socket at some point, probably to stop someone plugging a phone in and running up a huge bill, as it's a bedroom.
As you are not sure what you are doing, a sparky or a telecomms engineer would be able to help you. BTopenreach would also help, but to get someone out will be a bit pricey.

Else where in your bungalow I would presume you have a master incoming phone outlet. take the cover off that one and visually examine the wires, not all the wires will be connected, not all of them are used. Note how many cables enter the socket. Your incoming will have just two wires terminated in the slots. If there is another cable run into the box it may be the cable to your bedroom outlet. If the cables are connected draw a diagram and make a note of which slots the are terminated in. Again they may not all be used. Take the cover off the bedroom socket and see if they are attached. If you google master and slave telephone sockets wiring I'm sure you will find a diagram. Failing all this, plug your router in the master socket. and use the internet access wireless. Or get some plug in ethernet adapters attach one to your router and the other to your pc if it's wireless enabled.

All you can do is try it and hope it works out. Shouldn’t be a hazardous condition. Good luck
