hi i have been called to a house with the rcd tripping out found out side sockets causing some faults so i removed that now the rcd still trips out even if i turn all the connecting mcbs off any idea what would cause this.

o i also tested the kitchen ring and found on a end to end test the live reading was 97.0 ohms and the neutral was around 0.60 ish also any ideas i would really appreciate help.

cheers mike

what type of supply tt?, rcd fault is normally between neutral-earth,so turning off mcb will not cure problem quick fix- divide consumer unit neutrals say 1st 4 circuits disconnect, try to reset,no good then replace then other 4 circuits, keep dividing until you find affected circuit, disconnect all current using equiptment and megger n-e.are the cables to the outside sockets ok not got corroded or water etc.

kitchen ring sounds like corrosion on conductor do r1 & r2 from cu to mid point on ring then remove socket and seperate ring main faults are time consuming but sometimes you may get it straight away, depends how it was wired(all dead testing as you know)hope this helps

hi mate yes it helps it is a TNCS system but it has even tripped when i have turned all the mcbs off from the rcd side and it still tripped any idea

remember it is probably n-e fault,so turning off mcbs will not alwats cure it,is the rcd faulty?do you have a tester to do a 1/2 test on say 30ma for nuisance trip,

RCD tripping with all MCBs off either an earth fault or perhaps you have a loose connection causing an imbalance between live and neutral. Have you checked your voltage at the RCD
