hi all,

I`m fitting a new consumer unit for a client at the moment, and have advised them that need to have mains operated smoke alarms to meet Regs.

how ever they dont want anymore cost, and are happy with their battery ones.

do i simply put this down as a depture from regs ont the test sheet?

many thanks

Rob

If your just fitting a new consumer unit (ie not new build or total referb) then as long as it's not a rented property you don't need smoke alarms.

If it is a rented (or new build etc) then you MUST have MAINS with battery backup then AICO range is pretty much standard. and I will advise more if this is the case

There is no regulation which requires the fitment of smoke alarms with a new consumer unit.

Smoke alarms are outside the scope of BS7671 anyway. Building Regulations only require smoke alarms to be retrofitted if a building is materially altered.

ok thx, most my recent work has been on new builds,so i automatically think smokes!

and the client owns the property, so it seems they dont have to have them fitted.

thx again :)
