help please

I am a welder by trade/job and have just purchased a perkins diesel site welder which needs a few bits doing to it, one of the things is a 80amp s/w fuse(sorry don,t know the trade name for it) I have been given one from an old workshop which is being taken down , it is in a slim steel box which had armoured going in one side and tails the other ,
my question is does it matter which side the live /nuetral go in the switch either the top or bottom and will it still act as a fuse which ever way its wired
when I priced one for the welder they wanted a mortgage the guy at the counter told me to use a household electrical-supply one ,same one as above as someone else had done it ??

Not being over familiar with this kind of equipment (welders), my assumption is that yes, it should be fine wired either way round.

Unless someone with a bit more knowledge on these things has any input?

Do you have a picture of the switch you mention? or further information on the welder that you plan to have installed and where?

Hey, am a little confused by your question. If you are connecting up a switchfuse then feed and load should not be mixed up, indeed the terminals in the switch should be labelled up for you.

If you mean does it matter how the cables enter the switch then no, only how they are connected.

Hi Lenny, what I am trying to say is can the switch 80amp fuse be used either end i.e feed in the top / load out the bottom .
or feed in the bottom /load out the top of the fuse
could I reverse the feed/load and wether it will still work as a fuse
I understand Live /Nuetral terminals on switch

Hey mate.

A fuse will blow under overloading no matter which way the current is travelling through it.

Just observe any manufacturers instructions/terminal labels that come with the switch and you'll be fine.

The only other thing I would say is make sure your earthing is up to scratch.
