Hi,
i know you guys have had this question a million times, my situation is that i work full time for a local electrical contractor, Im self employed but have plenty of work and have no plans on leaving, however im always offered private work which id like to carry out during evenings and weekends, my problem is that i need to register with a governing body, either nic, elecsa, napit, now i was gonna register with the nic but i need two jobs to show there assesor, do i need to fork out to building control on two private jobs so i have something to show him or are there any other options? any help or opinions would be appreciated,
thanks

If you ask the NICEIC directly, you will receive the 'correct' answer of "notify in advance to building control".

If you ask for your assessors number and ask him/her then you will be told not to bother until after your assessment.

Cant speak for NIC, but both NAPIT and Elecsa will allow you to show them work you have recently completed. Once you have passed the assessment, you can be registered and notify LABC through them. Cant think of the exact time frame, but i think you have 30 days to notify LABC from the time you finish the work, so if you arrange your assessment to coincide with a job you are doing ( quite often a CU change in your own house ) you dont have to go to the expense of paying building control!

Dont forget you will need your own meters etc, public liabilty insurance, along with the BRB and GN3 etc etc...
