[ElectriciansForums.net] Help understanding AC motor diagram pleasehi can I anyone help me understand wiring one of these l, also what capacitor needed. I want to use with a speed controller. To be used on DIY reeling machine Any other tips thanks in advance.

TL;DR
Understanding motor wiring diagram help!
Most speed controllers are designed to work with 3 phase motors
even if you are using a single phase supply.
what you have there is a fixed speed single phase motor.
it may be possible to use it but you are making life really hard for your self.

Thanks for replying
Hi I was told by a motor supplier that single phase motors were easier to control speed. so now even more confused.

If you want high torque at low speed, a DC motor is likely to give you the best speed control as it gives 100% rated torque from zero Rpm

does this motor supplier not recommend or sell a controller that goes with this motor they sold you?

"also what capacitor needed" -> 6uF 440v

To change the speed of this motor you would change the supply frequency, however the motor has been designed for 50Hz only!

You might get away with +/- 5%

Any more than that and you will overheat quickly
