Hi just wondering if there is any one out there could give me some information regarding an assignment for my electricians course.
I have to install a single IP 55 rated single socket using 2.5mm SWA cable. I have to write a report on step by step, the last one I done was for a lighting circuit with one switch, my report for this was
1. Calculate my design current
2. Checked the OSG for protection device
3. Calculated voltage drop
4. Select cable conductor size

Is this all the same for an outside socket, any information would be gratefully appreciated.

yes it is the same. if cable runs are outside, ambient temp. may be less for calcs. of derating. don't forget Zs. will be different to T/E as the cpc in SWA is the same csa as the L/N conductors.

Great so for current design what. Would be the power as I haven't been given a load its just an outdoor socket, thanks again

a single socket can deliver upto 13A (or 2990 watts ) , so use that as design current.

Hi sorry to be a pain again I've just worked out my design current as 2.7A, what table do I go to in the OSG to find out which protective device, I used a 20 A rcbo in the practical but now need to say where I selected it from, sorry to be a pain but I'm still getting to grips with the OSG and reg books.

2.7A for a socket ?????

Sorry I was reading something else my design current was 13a there's so many numbers ha

Isn't the questioned answered?

By the way I think you may also have to explain how your would terminate this SWA
