Help with electrical connection

Hey all, after a bit of help after no help from maplins, b&q etc.

I've just purchased 2 display cabinets that have a spotlight in each of them, however one of the plugs is missing that the wiring goes into, I've tried all the places I can think of and have looked all over the net but can not find anything. The connection is as in the picture a blade and a pin, i have only seen this once before on my la-z-boy sofa for the electric recliner.

What I need is either another plug which will do the same job as the one I already have or an adapter of some sorts to make 2 connections from the 1 currently available on the plug I have.

Please see pics below for picture of connector and plug I am talking about.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, even if it is the name of the connection! That would at least be a start.

It looks like a 2 pin Din socket, what voltage do these lamps run at ? is there a Transformer or are they mains lamps ?

Plug straight into the wall, only details I have are as per the pic, 230v 50Hz pri 12v 834mA sec

The tranny is in the plug.

I've fitted something very similar to these before, they came as part of a fitted bedroom from Leekes I think it was. Might be worth a try.

Ok just to make sure: You have a 3 pin plug that goes from the box shown to the wall socket & then leads coming out of the box going to the lamps, on the end of 1 of the leads you have the pin plug yes ? if thats the case then what you show is a 2 pin DIN plug & they're available from Maplins, Radioshack etc or possibly your local TV repair shop.

I have the 3 pin plug, which has the in built transformer, out of that is the 2 din connection for the wire which comes from the light. Problem is I only have 1 transformer plug and 2 sets of wires to plug in, so ideally need another transformer plug which will take the 2 din connection, or a solution to join the wires together do they both can go into the 1 existing plug. Both lights will be on at the same time you see

you could buy a 230/12v transformer, as used for 12v downlghters. these are generally 60 watts , so 1 transformer would comfortably run your 2 lights. cut the plugs off the lights and connect direct to the transformer. or, use the 1 existing transformer and hard wire the other light into the above, they are only around a fiver, but you would have to either hard wire the primary side, or fit a plug.

an electrician could sort this for you at not a great cost.

Gawd, trying to find the exact configuration of socket will be a job that requires patience and Google. I've seen the plug before and I don't think it's a recognised or official DIN configuration. It's a low voltage DC plug and I've only ever seen them or the equivalent female socket moulded on cables.

I wouldn't try running two from one power supply, chances are the PSU is closely matched to its intended load. I would get an electrician or electronics wizard to fit a standard barrel plug and socket instead. Then the world is your oyster, they're pretty universal. Just be careful though, polarity might be critical.

Ok If you want to wire two lights to the 1 socket on the transfromer you shoud be able to buy a splitter from Maplins, take the transformer with you & they should give you the right part.

Went to maplins Stockport and neither of the 2 clowns working there had even seen this connection before, sent me to wickes and b&q where I had no luck either

I couldn't find anything on CPC or RS either. Best bet is replace the transformer for what it would cost.

If it was new (from Ikea?) then holler to them to get it sorted.

The plug/adaptor they came with had a identical connection to that one you show

Nothing specific. If you feel up to the task, the specs are on the picture you've posted. If you have a local RS Components trade counter pop in and ask for suitable replacements. You'll want a 12V AC output one, cable of supplying about 1Amp and the necessary plugs/connectors to supply both lights.
