hi im doing a install and the outside walls are insulated with kingspan. There is 20mm gap between the kingspan and the plasterboard. Do i wire the install with conduit drops and metal boxes or is it ok to keep the cables in the 20mm gap. its just a ring main circuit.

Thanks
Matthew

Either or mate, whichever you prefer. Presume circuits has RCD protection.

If there run between the board and the king span then you may have to apply correction factors

Have a look at Tables 4AC, Number 3 Ref method A & 4D5 (Red Book)

Looks like 20mm conduit in the gap would be best to keep the 20A ccc , assuming you're using 2.5mm T&E.

yip 2.5 T&E. also there will be a 6mm T&E for the cooker. its a conservatory been built onto the kitchen. so i'm rewiring the kitchen ring main and the cooker is moved. I thought I would ask you guys as I had an argument with the guy I work as he think it only needs conduit when it passes through the kingspan. I thought it had to be put in conduit.

your argument would be that if the cable were to be just dropped behind the board, it would not be supported.

sounds ok to drop it behind the plasterboard as long as it is in the prescribed cables zones and RCD protected, if it were having to pass through any kingspan then yes, use conduit, as the foam of the kingspan can have a chemical reaction with the PVC of the cable and cause the insulation to deterioate
