Hi , this is my first visit to the forum so apologies if i have posted this in the wrong forum. Could you please advise me re the power supply for a Belkin wireless router which recently stopped working. It was a DVE 050100 rated at 5v 1amp. It stopped powering up a couple of days ago and I have tried another power supply which is rated at 5.1v 2amps with the same polarity. The router now powers on fine with this however I was wondering if it is safe to use due to the slight difference in voltage/amps. I wasn't sure if this will do as a replacement or if i should look at getting something with exactly
The same rating. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. [ElectriciansForums.net] Help with PSU[ElectriciansForums.net] Help with PSU

Assuming there is nothing in the router hardware that caused the PSU failure it'll be fine IMHO. I don't think you'll find that 0.1V over voltage is going to make that much difference, the original supply could easily have been that far over voltage anyway. You can ignore the max current draw for this.

should be fine. the 0.1v difference is negligible, and the fact that it's a 2A PSU just means that it will deliver a max. of 2A. you could use a 10A PSU . the router will draw what it wants.

Like topquark says, it should be just fine. Obviously, if the router was still under guarantee, use of another psu would be problematic. If you're going to bother to buy a replacement, the only thing that would give greater peace of mind would be an exact replacement for the original psu, from Belkin.

ore get a netgear router. i bought a belkin one once and after 2 hours of trying to set it up with the help of belkin technical on the other end of the phone, it flew through the window and a netgear unit plugged in and straight off worked.

Hi everyone,

many thanks for the replies, how quick was that! I thought that 0.1 was insignificant but better to be safe than sorry. Router was out of warranty so this has saved me ÂŁ8 from amazon.

Cheers
