Hi every one i need a bit of help, tomorrow i am going to a job where the customer has just has a concrete garage built and would like a supply put into the garage, so what i thought was just to run a swa from a spare way in the db in the house to the garage and into a garage 4 way board and take the earth from main earth bar in the house db, the problem i am having is mt boss has said that i can not do that as that will be exporting the pme which is not allowed and that i am going to have to put in a earth spike.

I personally think he is wrong and that i am allowed to use the earth from the db as it is not actually exporting the pme it is just extending the equipitential zone, the shed is concrete on a solid concrete foundation and has no services coming into it eg gas/water, as far as i can tell the only metal that will be in there is the conduit, db and sockets the garage is about 15 meters away from the house near the back of the garden the swa will be buried and armoring's will be glanded also the installation is kind of new with new wiring and new rcd 17th edition board and all bonding in place.

Am i right in saying i can use the main earth from the board or will i in fact have to put in a rod? i really don't see why i should not use a perfectly good earthing system with a low ze and instead use a spike with a less stable ze which will probily be higher then the current ze.

-------------------Edit---------------------------

I have looked at the main forum at all the past posts (which there are a lot of) but no one seems to know a definate answer some say its fine and some say you cant do it and there are others who say you have to ask the dno so i don't have a definate answer

i would have been, but i worked hard and passed 11+. :smilielol5::smilielol5::smilielol5::smilielol5:

you could ask him to find the section in the regs. where a concrete garage is a caravan or special location.

Why don't you ask him to show you what part of the regs that's in? Hand him a copy!
That's the way of doing it in a way he cant get vexed at you!

I would of done that mate but I did that to him before and he just said "the regs are only guidance" and didnt listen to me then either I just dont think that he likes me correcting him as he has been doing it 30 odd years and has all this experiance he just dont like me disagreeing with him but if I think it is wrong I will he just never listens haha
