HI there doing a new careers course on being a domestic electrical installer and got stuck on a question so wondering if any of you guys could give me a hand?

Which of the following is not an advantage of using a MCB instead of a rewirable fuse?

a)Visual indication of failure

b)Rapid reseting of the device

c)can be locked for isolation

d)needs an electrican to reset

any ideas help thanks

the one they ain't given in the answer. it can't be replaced with a nail:76:

You need to think about this one a little and decide which answer is patently incorrect.
Is there an immediate visual indication of failure with and MCB and not with a rewirable?
Can you reset and MCB faster than rewiring a rewirable?
Can an MCB be locked for isolation where a rewirable cannot?
Does an MCB need an electrician to reset it where a rewirable does not need an electrician?

The answer should be clear cut.

Hi, Be very careful of doing a NCS course they do not teach you anything about the real world they just teach you about how to pass the exams,I have done a NCS course near Southampton and once I had passed found it very hard for anybody to take you seriously about getting work because I had no experience in the trade.

Ah, so you went into the centre believing that you were going to come out a fully qualified spark earning 50-70k a year lol

I did the same course and I am currently bringing in my own work but that may have something to do with the fact that I chose to gain experience along the way. Yes I'll admit I was lucky to find someone who gave me the opportunity but better to start early than get to the end and then try and get someone to take you on;)

:thumbsup

but come on guys.....mull it over for a minute......i think its clear....

Most definitely but you know how it is when you've been sat there trying to concentrate for a couple of hours, kids running riot, neighbour DIYing and Water Board digging up the street - The simplest of questions to read turns out to baffle beyond belief lol

I used to leave them, answer the ones I knew the answers to, grab a coffee and a breather and then have another look. If still no joy then I'd put the folder away and have a look the next day or a few days after that :D

a good strategy short.........and a good way to approach an exam such as the 2391.....city & guilds advise to start at the front and answer the 20 short answer questions first before taking on the 6 structured ones......you can do them in ANY order you choose......
