Hi,

Looking for a bit of information never really used a forum such as this before but I'm still serving in the Army however exploring my options before I take the plunge back into civilian street but Im thinking of getting some experience with a domestic electrical contractor perhaps on a Saturday and do the theory as an evening course perhaps one or two nights a week?

Im a bit clueless on what are the C & G qualifications required to work as a electrician so any help would be much appreciated?

Regards and thanks in advance

Terry

Hi Starskey,
I'm ex army too, they paid for me to do a fiber and data course on resettlement. after a couple of years working with fiber I decided it wasn't for me. So I put myself through collage, going one day a week for 3 years, I completed my C&G levels 1,2,3 and worked as a mate learning the trade. Earning ok money between 8 & 12 ÂŁ an hour. Wasn't always easy to find the work especially with the recession! I did my 17ed on 3 day course just recently. While working as a mate I slowly took on more responsibility and now im trying to complete my NVQ L3. After which ill be applying to JIB for my gold card. I think this is the best way off getting qualified and gaining electrical experience without actually doing the apprenticeship. Working hard, attention to detail, punctuality will always leave a good impression and give u more chance of getting work in future projects. Get your cscs or Ecs and utr number. All this has work for me. Hope that helps you decide.

I would train in CNC machining if I was you, that's where the money is now....electricians market is stuffed for new people for about the next 3 or 4 years by the look of it....

Bishbashbosh, thanks for the information that's a great help if you don't mind me asking which C & G courses have you done or what do you think would be best?

Will look into the CSCS and the UTR??..
