Hi guys,

I need to replace this water damaged isolator/relay??????

It is housed in an external ip rated consumer unit and powers a sewage grinder in a garden.


Any suggestions???

Why would you replace a capacitor with a relay? I'm completely confused by your question.

The fact that it's wet suggests the seals are gone in the enclosure.... just replace the lot in my opinion. ...

looks like a C3 double pole MCB. as said, if it's wet, the enclosure needs replacing.

it is in a creek that got waterlogged. i aim to put the new one in an ip enclosure.

any ideas how i can replace. so that is a capacitor is it?? there seems to be 3 cores and earth going to the machine

no, the black thing in your fingers in pic.1 is a capacitor. i assume you want to replace the trevi's thing. as i said, it looks like a 2 pole circuit breaker. chint do a range.

I would like to replace the consumer unit, 2 pole circuit breaker and capacitor as all got soaking wet and tripped out the rcd in the house.

I have disconnected and made safe, but have promised to go back and replace.

Basically they have no sewage system by the thames and this machine chops up their poo!! lol
So need replace asap

Can i buy this like for like complete or do i need to buildit myself.

I haven't got too much experience with capacitors??

the capacitor will probably be fine to re-use once dried out. google chint 2 pole MCB what you have appears to be a 3A type C. alternatively, take it into your local wholesaler and ask for a close replacement. looking at the cables you'l probably be OK with a 6A type C. that's assuming it is a MCB.

I'd first try to rescue what you've got especially as you don't know what you're playing with. Dry out mcb and other components and relocate the lot into a new IP enclosure, 9/10 it'll work!

If the enclosure got completely submerged it's IP rating wouldn't accommodate this type of water you can probably dry it out, check the seals and reuse it. The MCB should be a breeze to find a replacement. Take the capacitor as a sample and find a wholesaler who can give you a new one with the same discharge voltage and uF rating.

If further flooding is likely maybe look at relocating or elevating the level of the enclosure.

to be honest i could probably have dried the whole lot out and put them in a new enclosure.

relocating the unit higher up or even better indoors would be the better option, but the owner just can't afford that work and disruption at the moment.

so you think one of these would be good with the current capacitor and a new enclosure?

this is fed by a 20a mcb in the main consumer unit rcd protected so it can't be drawing more than 20a

You might be pushing your luck with a 63A D/P MCB looking at the cable sizes in your picture.

How is the motor controlled, does it have a 'floater' switch, sorry I mean float switch and have you checked that there isn't an earth fault at the motor/grinder?
