HAs any member on here gone on a different forum and asked for help/advice ? Were they helpful as sometimes people on here are or not helpful as some people on here are

Yup. I'm on 2 others. Won't name them as Dan won't like it.

One is very sparky pro with not much activity and the other often bends over back ward for DIYers.

I use the same name too!

I went on the *****forum it was help full and got the right drugs that I need, this forum has allays helped me when most needed, all the boys on here are helpful and happy, so it is the best place to be if you are a plumber, kitchen fitter Electrical Trainee or just in to D.I.Ys the end of day we are all here to help but sometimes we are not, the best time to post is a Friday night as this is when most of the good guys are online and you get the best answers and it's good fun

A lot depends on how the question is asked and what BS we have to translate into English before we answer directly relates to how much of a hard time someone gets. EG,
I'm fully qualified but (insert first year apprentice level query of choice) = I'm a Electrical Trainee and am totally out of my depth
I'm asking this because my regular electrician who will be signing all this off is unavailable because his mother in law's cousin's mate's dog has a cut paw = I'm a DIYer who needs help
My regular electrician is on holiday = I thought this would be stupidly easy now I'm in up to my neck.
The above usually results in an orgy of mick taking but,
I'm a Electrical Trainee and would like to ask about X because I'm not sure or
I'm a DIYer and thought this would be easy but now realise I'm screwed
will result in advice being given even if it's only to call a qualified electrician

looked at other forums reconise a few names from here too on there but find most questions I need to ask have been answered on here so using the search I find what I need.
Hence why I joined here. Ok some folk jump on you if you ask to them a question with an obvious answer (but its not your field) some are a bit grumpy some downright rude but most are helpful so just filter out the bull**** and its ok.Then the humour some take it personally its humour get over it.
Its always a dilemma what to say to a DIYer If they dont give you much info will they understand what you reply, will your advise leave the circuit safe? even changing a light switch can be dangerous to some.

awaiting my ban :coolgleamA:

I belong to another forum not electrical! if you ask a question they are not as harsh but a few take the mild p but very rare, the humour that is on this forum seems to be excellent and I have been barred from a forum aimed at diyer's as some of the information given was downright dangerous I though and said so

I'm on a landrover forum called landyzone, it's very very different to this place!
If you ask the wrong question, or don't share the opinions of the regulars then the abuse begins with serious insults and threats being thrown around.

sounds like a fun place

On another forum I'm on from time to time I had a threat made against me. I gave him my address, I'm still waiting for his visit

It is quite a fun place actually, as long as you don't go on there and ask what the biggest tyres you can put on a landrover are!
Why? Do people have differing opinions? What do you think are the biggest tyres you can put on a landrover?

Can you get bigger ones than these?
[ElectriciansForums.net] helpfulness

I suppose a lot of the comments are caused when you get the same basic questions again and again and again my forum is a hobby so no definite rules just strong opinions
