My Son got the call today he has been waiting for......He has PASSED his quals...now a spark...:D so proud and even did his AM2 first go....last 4 yrs have been worth it for him.

So just needs to get some more experiance behind him and then he wants to do his test and inspecting quals so he can sign his own work off...

A question from me....He was told by college he can now join JIB....whats the benefit of doing this for him...? any other ones better and roughly costings,,,as most know i'm not a spark by trade so all info is new to him ..

to be honest i think most quals are just made up to get the money out of you, most of these big firms want ya to do everythin the training companys capitalize on this knowing fare well you cant get anywhere without then, when i did my electrical training three years ago AM2 was almost exactly the same only difference was we didnt install micc cable, as for JIB you need relevent experience and quals to get approved electrician status, personaly i think its a waste of time unless you got approved status , as for cost you can check prices and gradings out at the joint industory board website hope this helps

I've just been looking on the jib site at costs etc...

there's alot of negative feedback on JIB...

All i need to know lads..is whats best for him NOW he has qualified..?..

I know work is scarce but whats the better organisation to join..?

He has trained more in the commercial side of it..within factory's and heavy cable glanding etc...to small works within the domestic sector for the last 4 yrs but i don't think he wants to house bash on the sites ...so maybe JIB is more for the wage side of it..and NICEIC or ELECSA would be better for the domestics..?

looking for wise words here...;)

Congratulations to the lad. If he is going to get into the Industrial/Commercial game he wont get far without a JIB card. Has he done his ECS ( Health & Safety) ÂŁ35, NVQ3. If he sends them all to the JIB along with his completed indentures, log book and his ÂŁ30 it should come bank as an Electrician grading. Once he passes his 2391 he can send that off with ÂŁ5 for a JIB approved Electrician card. It can atke about 6 weeks as the JIB are snowed under at the mo.

I'm 53 and if you read my intro then you know JIB is not for me but, many of my coleagues/associates have or are contractors and say the JIB card is really a must so I would in his shoes go for JIB. I am toying with the idea of NAPIT but and only for commercial reasons am considering NICEIC may even join both eventually I don't know yet. If your lad is going on his own and can get domestic work (thro' friends and familly to start with) I would go JIB and NICEIC, there you have "best?" of both worlds till he gets established/experienced then he can drop whichever if he wants. Think of me as an outsider looking in and I can see where the profiles are highest in my perception. Best of luck whatever route he takes.

Regards

Kev
