hi everyone doing a periodic and got some large open downlights the eyeball type fitted in some wooden cladding just wondered what people would put for this fairly new to pirs thanks i cannot see what rating is on the lights which is the problem.

no evidence of overheating they are old client probably wont be happy with swapping them just want to cover my back passed elecsa yesterday telectrix you have helped alot towards that so thank you for previous posts

if they appear ok, check the connections to the lampholder. i was called out to some of these in a kitchen, 3 out of 5 had packed in. the lamphoder connections had burnt through, i replaced all 5 with GU10,s ( malcolm's torches ) in adaptor fittings, as the holes in the ceiling were 6" diameter.

only if A. they showed signs of deterioration. B. if customer wanted me to.

Thing is with a PIR you can give the results to your client and if they don't want to do anything then it is up to them.

There is nothing in law that says they must have any faults found repaired.

If the connections are Ok , and no signs of burning, i would code it 2 requires improvement if they are not fire rated and not in the correct zone. Any signs of burning etc, then code 1. If all is Ok then leave it alone and say now't. But this is only my opinion, and i have had 4 cans of John Smiths as well.

Cheers.......Howard

You have to remember you are putting your name to the PIR and signing it.

When friends are involved you might feel under pressure to pass the inspection but if anything goes pear shape who gets the blame.

You have answered your own question as you the inspector are not happy with the lights.

Good luck.
