Morning everyone, ive posted a few times on here but thought I should introduce myself

Im Matt, aged 25 from west yorkshire

Not sure why but ive always had an interest in electrics, just found it hard to get a foot in the door to get started

Worked as a trainee over a year ago for around 9 months but unfortunately they had to let me go due to lack of work
That got me down a bit so I ended up going back to the job Im qualified to do, upvc window and door fabrication and fitting

After work really slowing down, ive decided to give it another go and try get back into it

I was too late for college this year ( my own fault due to deciding too late ) so it looks like its going to be another year before I can get onto the course

The college says I can enroll in November for next year so ill be enrolling on the 2365 level 2 and 3, and if I find an employer in that time I can switch to the 2357, if not I will complete level 2 and 3 2365, then do extra courses to get my nvq and am2 providing I can find an employer

In the time from now until next september, I plan on trying my best to get practical hands on experience, even if its just a few days here and there for now, and also to revise the level 2 and do practice exams which will hopefully give me a bit of a head start when its time for college

Im sure ill be pestering you all with my questions throughout my time as a trainee so thanks in advance for the help / advice im given

Thanks

Matt

Welcome to the forum, sorry to hear of the difficulties, unfortunately all too common at the moment.

Good luck with the course and experience. There is a lot of help available on here.
When asking questions always have a think about them first and give your version of what you expect maybe search the forum for the same question already having been answered, then the forum will be much more likely to help than if you post a "give me the answer, question"
:welcome:

what things did you cover on your 9 months experience ?

Hi northstar, spent a lot of time doing the usual trainee jobs, making tea, carrying tools, chasing out for cables, fitting back boxes clipping cables and all the rest of it

As I progressed I used to wire up sockets, fuse spurs, light switches, terminating SWA etc..

While I was with the company we did around 3 full house rewires, which gave me some great experience on how the cables were run and how ring / radial circuits worked

I was also lucky enough to shadow a 3 phase industrial job which involved moving isolating switches / SWA to new points in the factory for machines to be installed

We also did a inspection and testing job at a pub, but to be honest I never picked anything up from that as they didnt have the time to really to spend me with explaining all the tests and said it was too early for me to be thinking about that sort of thing which was fine with me

Thanks
