I have just stumbled over this forum and it is just what I was looking for, very informative, So here I am.

I started as an apprentice er.. hmm over thirty years ago now .
I set off wiring houses then moved into electrical maintenance in factories and for the last
eighteen years have worked offshore. I'm thinking of working less offshore in the future and perhaps picking up work doing EICRs back home near Manchester and would appreciate some advice.

I would also like to pick peoples brains about which is the best scheme to join , are there any standard charges for an EICR? and so on...........

you don't need to be in a scam to do eicr's, but some clients insist on it. as for pricing.. varies between !
£15 and £20 per circuit, or charge by the hour.your choice.

It may be difficult for a competent electrician to survive doing pirs only
That corner of the market is notorious for questionable business practices

Charges can be a case of pluck a figure out of the air that can make it worthwhile, then hope you have it competitive
You could do the 40 mins per circuit and 40 mins per dist board and multiply by your hourly rate method

Those sort of prices are fine for me . I have no interest in under cutting people and would only be looking to do a few jobs a week anyway.
How would you go about remedial work (not how to actually do it) but the paper work side . Am I right in thinking I would need to be in a part P scheme to issue an EIC . If so which one . Stroma appear to be the cheapest I think...?

No,as you know you issue a eic(or minor works) for all installation work

The Part P thing is for work that is notifiable under building regulations
For that you can inform and pay the council or you can become self certifying by joining a scheme
I'm with Napit but the schemes are all sort of the same burden,however as you say Stroma appear to be the cheapest
