hi just about to begin a new journey love some advice

R

robbani123

hello everyone

just introducing myself

im 37 and about to start c&g electrical course @ beford college
worked in various job roles but nothing like this would love to have a solid trade behind me

im a bit nervous about starting and also confused about the whole process of becoming a qualified spark
am i right in that the process is 3 years doing c&g (im doing p/t) and than get a job as a apprentice to get nvq's

feel a bit hesitant to start the course it will cost me alot of money and time both of which i really havent got
if i do get through the 3 years ill be 40, is a firm going to realistically employ a 40 year old apprentice

am i being realistic ? what is the current job climate like @ the moment

thanks in advance

Hi Robbani welcome to the trainee section.
If you really want to be an electrician then don't be deterred by your age, don't think about being 40 years old and only just qualified think of it as being 40 and having the rest of your life doing a job that you love.
If you use the search feature you will find loads of threads about your predicament.
Also a mature guy can have a lot to offer an Employer so don't be worried about that, Any questions you have don't hesitate to ask them in here.
Good luck on your quest.

Hi and welcome, 37 is no age mate... best of luck with your career choice and dont be scared to get on here and ask some questions. I can honestly say ive learned twice as much on here than i have at college so far!

Welcome to the forum by the way hadn't realised you had just joined the forum so Welcome sure you will find it useful for your training good luck on your endevours

You are following the right process, and whilst it can be daunting at first the going should get easier, try and start looking for mates employment after completing level 2 so that you can get your foot on the ladder and start getting experience for your NVQ3.

If you apply yourself then the money and time will not be wasted, mature candidates are in demand.
Whilst the job market is not wonderful at the moment it never is all that good, so just go for it and do the best you can.
There is always an opportunity somewhere.
