My r1 and rn readings are at 0.14 however my r2 value is at 0.35 over the 1.67 times does this need further investigation or am I being petty, Zs still falls below 1.16 max for 2.5 cable.

On another circuit r1 and rn are at 0.35 and my r2 reading is at 0.42 lower than 1.67x is this acceptable. Please advise on my queries as you can tell I'm new to testing.

if you are measuring with sockets connected, ie. measuring using a plug-in adaptor, i would say that you are getting an error introduced by the socket itself.

In the first case:
You have either got 1mmsq CPC, most likely as your readings are spot-on for this or if you have 1.5mmsq CPC then there are probably one or more loose connections on the r2 loop.
In the second case:
If you have 1.5mmsq CPC, then it's probably loose connections on the r1 and rn loops and as the readings are same I would suspect that the loose connections are likely to be at the same socket or FCU. If it's an old property part of the ring may have been wired in 2.5mmsq singles?

of course if you are using crocodile clips then it could be the connection on them.

I have given up with ring ciruits and consequently always put in radials for rewires and new circuits. Apart from being much more diy proof they are a lot simpler to test and can be perfectly adequate for nealry all household requirements. If it is a board charge and you are not happy ypu always have the option to put it on a 20amp mcb or even split the ring.

Hi poheZ

when you split the ring I assume you do this at a socket and disconnect one of the cables from socket and put it in a connector block? I agree with putting in radials now instead of rings, but find that you have more breakers therefore could have exceeded your maximum amps after using x .4 method, Thanks for your advice on this
T&E

you would not exceed the max. amps as you would replace a 32Awith 2 x 16A MCBs.
