Has anybody used one of these Hilti guns? I was wondering if they would be any good for fixing back boxes or capping. Does anybody have another suggestion of what they could be used for?

Probably better aimed at the commercial level mate, for fixing purpose made accessories. It would probably end up shattering the capping unless your using metal and it's into a pretty solid wall.

Hi, i have one but have only used it a couple of times - lot of money for how often you will need it! i dont think i would use mine for fixing back boxes, and doubt i would use if for capping either. It would be a nightmare to line a box up and then get the gun into the box and fire it - u dont want your fingers any where near the business end! I use it on the metal covering for outside cables ( for the life of me cant think of the name of it at the minute - top hat or bell capping??) . Another good use is for fixing ty rap holder above false ceillings. like these

You simply nail them into the concrete and saves loads of time! But they are expensive to buy the fixings, as are the nails and gas! You can also get an attachment that holds washers, again handy sometimes! They do conduit fixings that will also hold some armoured!

I have to say, if i hadnt got mine so cheap, it wouldnt be a tool worth having IMHO!

i have to say, i get the odd bits from there and never thought of trying there for the nails - will have a look! But like pennywise says, its more for commerial stuff - if you are doing that then happy days!

great tool for the right job and fixing back boxes aint one of them been there done it and it just makes a mess,a word of warning regarding these tools ALWAYS make sure you use correct nails,my mate has a scar from one side of his chest to the other, wrong nail in gun went though timber bent on contact with steel came back out and lodged in his ribs. Not a tool for playing with, also seen them go straight through a soft wall and come out other side.
