HMRC Tax Rebate Scam

Just to make you aware. There is a scam going around where the HM Revenue & Customs send you an email to inform you that you have a tax repayment due to you. It provides a link, that opens another window inviting you to enter your credit card details (to credit the repayment), mother maiden name, and other sensitive information.

THIS IS A SCAM! Do not enter any information. I contacted the HMRC who informed me that is was a scam and to report it using the link on their home page (online security). The page looks expertly like an official HMRC page, and is sure to catch a those expecting a tax rebate off guard.

Please don’t fall for this!!!!!!

Yes this has been around for a little while.

I believe they write to you and inform you of any rebates, and they certainly dont credit you to your credit card as they do not accept payments from them.

Easy answer dont give anyone any information from an email. Dont even ring the number they provide to verify who they are and as they always say if it sounds to good to be true it generally is.

Thanks - I had that email and I didn't know whether to respond or not!

Then I got an actual rebate in the post from HMRC, so glad that I didn't!
