how do you go about getting on these courses what quals are needed and how much do they cost roughly

go to your local college, you may need a btec nc or if your older they will take into account experience but may ask you to do a maths bridging course. i think its under ÂŁ400 pound for year 1 and under ÂŁ300 for year 2.
the factory i work in paid for mine and paid me a day off work for two years to attend

its a good qualification to have, hnc and hnd are both level 5 qualifications, an hnc is made up of 10 units while an hnd is 16. i have hnc and now deciding whether to do a further part time college course to upgrade(do another 6 units) to hnd or go open university degree.
if you want to do maintenance the hnc is an excellent thing to have, units such as 'programmable logic controllers' and 'instrumentation and control' should be your bread and butter in maintenance,
the qualifications are changing slightly from September this year in line with summit skills and the qualifications framework,im sure you've seen posts here about the new nvq, but id definitely recommend.
as a final thought, you'll get out what you put in, if you want to learn, you'll reap the benefits.

definitley keen on it as daft as it sounds i kinda miss college :(

not only that the prospects sound good also was talking to a mate of a mate whos an electrical engineer at a supermarket wharehouse and hes got his hnc says his jobs a doddle goes work 12 hours a day only does 2 or 3 hours of work most of the time hes either doin a little bit of paper work or playing on his psp or working on his cars in work hours picks up 35k a year

also the prospects of working abroad sounds really appealing

i have just passed my HNC in electrical engineering and it is very very maths based! although the final exam is not so bad but some of the classes are murder.

to gain your HNC you have to complete 12 modules. the college i attended only done 12 modules so you couldnt fail any! which was fun. managed an A in my final exam right enough. was going to go for the HND after summer but 2 lecturers at college convinced me to go for my degree as to get the HND would involve doing another 16 modules and for jobs nowaday they are really expecting a degree in elec engineering.
