hello, Is there a reg that means you must use a connection point instead of the wire coming striaght out of the wall into the hob.

I have always used a connection point but where the hob is to be installed there will no access below and it has a dishwasher to one side and washer and the kitchen fitter dosent want them behide as someone might confuse them with the flex out lets and connect them to, (i did see the point diy'er) he said every other sparky they have used have always just come from the switch striaght into the hob.
I did have a bit of job with him reguarding the wiring for the point for other items as he wanted them all on sockets in the next cupboard along and didnt believe that you are not suppose to fix to the kitchen unit and now says i must have it wrong and i wont getting any more work as other sparky are more then happy to do as he requested.

many thanks

Yep another Do the work correctly and loose it situation..... We would all be better off if we just did as the DIY sparks do.
"john down the road was ÂŁ10 cheaper than you and he said i didnt need that RCD fingy" you just cant win against it

the real answer to the question is if an appliance is removed would you just leave a wire there ,some hobs come pre wired so what do you connect it to also the wire entering the cooker should be heat resistant , i dont wire cookers in twin and earth i use heat resistant flex 6mm 3 core

Thats what I always do. Isolators always in cupboards aswell. Say what ya like, its quicker and looks neater. Someone want to take me to court over it, be my guest.

Up to you really, you can either sit at home with no work and no money but with a clear conscience, safe in the knowledge that you never risked anybodys life by screwing a socket to a kitchen cupboard or running a T&E into a hob or you can actually try and cooperate with the people you are relying on for your livelihood and not worry too much about being a total jobsworth.

I'm sorry to have to disagree Dave, buts that's a real slippery slope that you're on. You either do the job as its meant to be done, or you don't, simple as that. Once you start deciding which reg to forgot and avoid, where do you draw the line?

Personally, if the person I was subbing for was asking me to do stuff like that, I'd be right out the door... toute suite, otherwise you end up being no better than 'Wayne, down the Dog & Duck'.
Cooperation is a two way street, wonder how that kitchen fitter would feel if you started making suggestions that meant his work ended up being $hite and shoddy. Not too happy I'd bet.

You make a good point. At the moment I draw the line at using wet string instead of cable, but who knows where my cavalier attitude will take me in the future...

He was ok in the end about the way to do it but cant understand why others anit doing the same. what i want to know if its ok to not to use a connection point for hob and due put the wire from the the switch striaght into the hob ?

I don't believe its mandatory to have a connection point as the isolation is still provided which is the most important part. BTH i have installed them both ways but the majority are through connection points as T&E is not ideal behind very hot items, hence i too use flex.
I also occasionally put the isolaters in a cupboard and fix sockets to the inside of units, fridge for example.
I do what i consider to be safe and as esthetic as i can make it.
The last one its was the kitchen fitter who mentioned about it being in the cupboard and i told him i did not want it in the cooking area as it was a large range and was in danger of getting covered in grime.
End of day, all was happy
