Hello all, can someone tell me what the best cable is for connecting hobs and ovens i thought heat flex but now I'm being told sparky ive been working with today that t&e is fine

I also wondered if connecting the 2-kW oven straight into the the cooker switch not fused apart from 32amp mcb is ok as i was thinking it would need fusing down to a max of 20amp due to it load

I only been in the industry for 3 years and he has been init for 30 years so i just agreed with him but i cant see how he is right.
Have i been doing something the hard way by using heat flex and end up putting in a hob isolator and a fcu for the cooker

Many thanks

I have always used T&E from the cooker outlet to the oven, hob usually has flex attached and straight into another cooker outlet, both controlled from double pole switches.

I tend to run the cooker switch on to a 20 amp mcb,you could even use a 16 amp,in 4mm cable.
Then to a double socket, for ign hob,and the cooker on a 13 amp fuse.
All cookers should have a max demand in kw on them. Then do your sums.

For the simple reason that whenever I run a radial,be it sockets or whatever,(although not lighting)I run it in 4mm,so have it handy, plus the 4mm will take on extra load.unless theload exceeds the 4mm cable safe capacity.
