I have been asked by a friend to have a look at what the council have done in his new kitchen. One of the sockets is nearly over the sink and the cooker switch is half over the hob. I know this is bad practice but I can't find any regs regarding this.

Any help appreciated ;)
 
that's the figures i use as an absolute minimum. but then it's a council job, so a socket can be cable tied to the taps. get your mate to burn the cooker point with a blowlamp, then call them back.
 
Don't think there is a specific distance in the regulations but it comes under proximity to other services and influences at a guess. It's common sense at the end of the day and adequacy of access to switch gear in the hob instance, kinda hard to get to if the chip pan's on fire directly in front of the switch.

I'd be more worried about putting the fire out than reaching the switch :smile5:
