I know many of us on here are self employed and a holiday is something of a luxury as don't want to leave the business for an extended time etc. I'm off to Greece on Wednesday for a week with the family and fortunate enough to have someone reliable enough to take care of the day to day running of the business whilst I'm away. Just wondering if others have anything booked up and if they feel the same as I do when going away?

Cheers Ruston, just makes me nervous leaving things for a whole week..stupid I know lol. Got a mains room to complete before I leave which I started yesterday, working tomorrow and Tuesday on it and Wednesday morning if things don't go to plan haha.

Don't worry mate , I bet a pound to a penny that you would not employ men that are not up to the job.
I know how you feel though, the hardest part is delegating the can.

Being a Sole Trader makes taking leave tricky BUT I do have 1 week in the summer. Obviously I always have to take my mobile, my laptop and divert the home phone to my mobile.

We had a weekend at Center Parcs a few weeks ago - 2 messages on the mobile and 3 requests for work - and I was "away" from about noon on Friday until Sunday night!

I would like 2 weeks away but its tricky.

Next year my daughter will have done her GCSE's and my son will have finished his first year at Technical College so we are hoping to have a "once in a life time" holiday at the end of June. We have about ÂŁ6K saved already - so only about ÂŁ4K to go...... as we expect anything we choose to be at least ÂŁ10K

You have a to have a break!

Sounds good Murdoch, we've been considering saving over the next year or so and doing something similar. We have been looking at doing the whole Disney Florida thing whilst the kids are still young enough to appreciate it (all 3 of them). Not going to be cheap though if we want to do it properly but something I think they would always remember :). My pal from school is getting married next year in Cyprus and I've been asked to be best man.....All inclusive at the same hotel for 2 weeks comes in at ÂŁ5.5K for 2 weeks

This is what we have in mind because I want to go to the Kennedy Space centre.

One of my clients has a villa with a pool we can hire and we are quite happy to self cater and have a decent place to stay. Doing the sums is scary but this is a one off! The accommodation is cheap compared to the fights and passes for the parks - that's why we are saving so we can go and not worry unduly about the costs getting out of hand!

Yeah flights and park tickets are expensive. I know a few people who have done it and they all seem to recommend hiring a car and finding a villa in Kissimmee. Most villas I've looked at have a pool, games room etc to keep the kids entertained between going to the parks. 10K is a lot of money though but as you say it is a once in a lifetime thing for most of us and well deserved.

I am one of those sad buggers that doesn't do holidays and I've got 3 lads on the books so could quite easily leave them to run it for a month if needed, I just don't do the whole holiday thing plus it's tricky with the dog and I wouldn't want to leave him in kennels.

I have a dog and the inlaws have her whilst we are away.

If I could take the pooch away and leave our lass at home I might be tempted

Joking apart we have both said that when the pooch as climbed the big staircase that we want to do the whole route 66 experience with a soft top mustang. and also somewhere cold, I am not a lay on the beach person.

My live's a permanent holiday lol. I've only spent 14 nights in my own house since 1st January. Joking aside though I have a long weekend in Magaluf next weekend for my sons stag. Then I'm home for the sons wedding on 18th June and straight over to Paris after to watch N.Ireland against Germany at the euros. After that I've got my 2 week annual pilgrimage to Turkey on the 11th July with the family.
