at present my system is getting a bit long in the tooth, I have had my present TV / receiver + speakers / dvd player for over ten years.
My speakers and receiver were top notch back in their time (before children sapped my expendable income) and are still OK, however at last I am in the market for a new TV and blue ray player.
1) At the moment the DVD and freesat box both feed through the receiver which then feeds the tv with the picture signal, as the receiver does not have a HDMI output can I still use the receiver with a new flat screen LED TV and how is it connected.
2) Recommendations for a 46"/47" LED TV please

You will still be able to use it, however connected through scart, you maybe should look at installing a freesat HD box or cable/sky

As for blueray or TV, we always tend to fit samsung, very good gear and have it in my own house
alternativly
Try find a bluray home cinema reciever package, and connect freesat box to bluray player and then hdmi from bluray to tv

I was shopping in currys a few days back and they had a 42 inch samsung led tv on offer for around £430-450 which is a good price

Whats your budget?

so if I had a HD freesat box the picture would feed through the HDMI to the TV and the audio through Scart to the receiver and just keep the volume down on the TV?

Samsung tvs have a internal mute feature which allows you to turn tv speakers off

Does your reciever have digital optical input? , if so you can send the audio through that

You should check out your local currys clearance section, i found a reciever terr last week down from £499 to £199, pioneer, 3 hdmi inputs etc...

New reciever, freesat hd recorder box and bluray player, keep your existing speakers

If your spending money on this stuff, you want to avoid using scarts
