So working on an extension for a client, having the living room extended.
Existing ring sockets (same circuit) on the existing wall either side of the arch cut out.
Client asked whether I could just connect each end of the new socket ring cable run (4 sockets low potential load) to an existing socket. I can't see why not, as the ring is still intact and the sockets will each accept a 3rd 2.5, the only thing that sticks in my mind is that someone in the future might think its 2 separate radials, one run off each socket rather than the start and end of a ring...
Thoughts?

you can extend the RFC in 1 outlet by taking 1 leg from existing socket out and join to 1 leg of the new. then other leg of the new bit into the socket outlet. might need a deeper back box to accommodate the joint. ( joint in cable, that is: not the smoking variety)

To clarify:
Customer's query was: Instead of crimping the end of one ring to the new cable end, is it possible to join them using the socket terminals, which got me thinking...cables are still joined, ring would still be intact (albeit with a parallel run of cables from one socket to the other (socket along RHS wall, across back wall and along LHS wall to other socket), but this niggling feeling in my head said no, but wanted to give a reason why it couldn't be done, rather than just saying no....
Actually...just realised that there is a simpler way potentially, remove the link cabling between the 2 existing sockets and divert the ring cabling around the new part of the room. (wall is being removed between the 2 existing sockets to leave an archway into the new room, so the cable between the 2 existing sockets could be removed / disconnected.......blonde moment there....

That's the way to go!! All you are doing is extending the existing ring into the new extension. Your original idea of a ring within a ring, is not a very clever one, so don't ever contemplate doing the same in the future.

E54 - customer's idea not mine, my plan was and still is to extend the ring, now just going to remove the unneeded leg to simplify matters further. Just couldn't provide an answer to the customer off the top of my head as to why ring within a ring wasn't a good idea...
I&T would a potential pain as well as the potential for it being confused in future for 2 radials...

Your the electrician not the customer. It's down to you to educate the customer as to what is acceptable and not acceptable!!

It would certainly be confusing, but i doubt very much it could be confused as being 2 radial circuits, two non complying spurs off the ring maybe!! ..lol!!

Didn't say I would do it, already had plans to do it "properly". The query though was a mental itch that needed scratched so to speak, ergo the post.....

Mistype, been busy today and had a slip of the mind.....radials on the brain today seemingly....lol
