We are trying to use a 5000 watt generator to run a ULT cascade freezer in the event of a power outage utilizing an extension cord. The generator has two 5-20 duplex receptacles, rated at 2500 watts each, and one L14-30 receptacle rated at 5000 watts. The freezer runs at 120V/16A according to the data plate. Is it possible to hook the hot lines from the L14-30 outlet in parallel, so that we can utilize all 5000 Watts on one 120V circuit?

Looks like I'll need a transformer instead.

Yes my friend no mater what you do 5000 watts is 5000 watts it might just run it if you can get through the start up which will pull the most current at that time. If it makes through that it shouldn’t pull but about 3000 watts at best. Listen to the generator and you will hear it bogging down if it has to much of a load. Good luck

Thanks I appreciate it. It's for a college professor here where I work and he really wants it to work, but I have my doubts. These freezer have two 1 HP compressors in them.

I wouldn’t worry to much about two 1hp motors they won’t pull as much current as you think. I think it will work if that’s all the load it’s going to be pulling. The name plate rating is max amperage to size the breaker. Your alright
