hi guys
if an electric shower keeps changing from hot to cold, whats wrong??.
its a new shower only in about 6 months.

Check the inlet filter, it is in the pipe where the water pipe connects to the shower, it looks like a little basket.
If this is blocked it will restrict the incoming pressure and will act as though it has low water pressure, this will in turn cause the water pressure switch to open and so taking away the electricity supply to the heater to prevent scalding. Once the water pressure builds back up by forcing itself through the blocked filter the switch will make again and you will get hot water again, hence the cycling between hot and cold. But also as Durham has said low pressure will give the same symptoms. Do you live a hard water area, if so it could be a build up of limescale, you may need to fit an additional filter if this is the case.

Cheers...........Howard

Im with Durham on this, have been against them for years after seeing a few faulty ones, all those litres of water flowing over a bit of plastic housing 45/50 amps, dependent on the suppliers seal.

No Thanks!!!

Is it a Triton shower had a few out of box problems and a some after a few months where it keeps cycling hot and cold or starts hot and then goes cool the fault is usually on the PCB and is down poor soldering

sounds like a water pressure issue as allready mentioned the elements in the little tank in the shower heat the water and usually when you turn the heat up on the shower it just reduces the flow so there is less water going into the tank and it heats the smaller amount of water quicker making it hotter, cooler water is the opposite of this except when set to cold the elements are turned off alltogether.
when the water pressure is poor there is not enough water to heat in the tank so it gets too hot and the temp limiter will cut out the element to stop scalding water leaving the shower , once it cools down the elements kick back in and it repeats this process untill you turn down the temperture/increase input flow.
as mentioned by others when the shower is running ok if someone starts using coldwater elsewhere in the house this can cause the pressure to drop ie flushing a toilet,a washing machire or washing up can cause the same problem.
check the water pressure in the tap. turn a cold tap on full and see if theres good pressure then turn the shower down to its minimum setting and see ifyou have the same pressure if not then it must be blocked somewhere probably a filter if you have gotthe same then filters mut be ok .
if the water is getting overly hot before it cuts out and pressure is quite low try a smaller shower.
electrically it could be a loose connection vibrating loose under load condiions check all your connections from board to shower a bad connection will soon get worse.
hope this helps

as already said-if it's 'pumped electric' clean head and inlet filter first

if it's mains -could also be fluctuations in water pressure

assuming pressure is adequate

yes dave thanks for enlightening me with pitures of showers i might want to buy one in the future. cleaning an inlet filter on one is not going to stop it running hot and old tho is it.
www.open.ac.uk/openlearn/get-started/get-started-learner.php you might find this usefull
