Wired a hot tub in 6 months back ... 6mm cable to isolator from db , from isolator to hot tub. the hot tub is only pulling 16 ap but id put a 6mm in asthe customer said they may upgrade in the future.

just had a phone call from the customer to say their is a funny smell from isolator, customer opened isolator and their hasbeen a blow off some sort, RCD did not trip

Any ideas why this would happen?

All connections were as tight as can be and all relevant tests were carried out upon completion

If it is a blow out as you call it, then one would expect the RCD to have tripped and failing that, the MCB to have tripped!! On the other hand it could be a loose connection, and burning around the affected connection, despite what you have stated about all connections being tight. You'll only know yourself, when you go round to check the system out...

as already said it could be a loose connection , could be the terminal itself on the isolator was it a new isolator or a used one that as been tightened to many times before, just trying to think of obvious reasons.

Are you 100% sure it's only 16A? Seems quite low.

The only hot tub I've had any experience with was a Legacy branded one and that was rated at 50A, but it was nothing special, just your standard 6 seater.

Not too sure about 50A, but certainly a lot more than 16A!! Takes a fair bit of heating does that amount of water in one of those spar's. Then you have all the separate pumps supplying different jet systems. Can't really see how a 16A breaker will be able to hold in myself!!

There's a lot of hot tubs out there designed to be low current so save the need of running mahoosive supply's to them.

Our one has a dip switch to change it from 32A to low current 13A mode
