If ever it was proved to me that electricity is dangerous it was the other day when i came home to fire my house some what of a smouldering wreck. We have just found out the cause...the guy we bought the house off had a 3kw 3 bar electrical fire, which we had plugged in but hardly used, he had jointed the cable with, .75mm2 cable it sparked and took the curtain up and the rest they say is history. I'm thankful that it was only things that can be replaced that were destroyed. I am thankful that i took my dog to work he is mans best friend and would have been gutted if something had happened to him. so all these as i call them have a go heros who take on electrical work should be careful is it really worth it just to save a few quid. it could cost your family their life.
On the upside my wife has a whole list of renovations for me to do. and it justifies my £50 quid a month home insurance. so pay up halifax! ;);)

Whoa. Thanks for sharing that.

What you said about have a go hero's is spot on. People who have a crack at their own electrics think that if they do it and everything works then it must be ok. Unlike gas and water which if something is wrong, you will see or smell it in a short amount of time. With electrics, it can take years, as in your case.

I'm glad you didn't loose anything sentimental. I'm a dog man myself and if anything happened to mine......

Good luck with the refurb.

Glad to hear you ok... and that the dog was out the house, I'd hate for anything to happen to mine.. That said, I had a friend whose uncle had a house fire with their dog in it. Came home to find the house pretty much gone and the dog sat on the front garden waiting for them to come home... I'll never underestimate a dog :)

Really sorry to hear that. I posted recently about a friend who suffered a major house fire. Still awaiting the formal fire report (started in the loft), but the disruption and upset to their lives is incredible. Like you, their house was unoccupied at the time - all the best to you and yours.

sorry to hear that, have only been involved in one fire rewire, old victorian property with fault on immersion circuit, caused by loose jb joints under floor... but the mess was terrible, fitted smokes FOC, hidden in the quote.

hope you get it sorted quickly
