house insulation and cables ??????

now that everybody is upgrading there insulation in their homes and this is being done by fitters with no electrical knowledge eg just wraping the insulation everywhere they can fit it does this or will this have much of an effect on the cables which are in the houses eg the cooling of the cables as i am working in a house at the moment they have pulled all the plasterboards off the walls and are stuffing them with fiberglass insulation all around the cables which are there ?

Tend to wire lights in 1.5mm now so no need to worry if on a 6 A breaker. Also use 4.0mm radials so apart from kitchen and utility i tend to put them on a 20A breaker so still no problem.

I can totaly see your point in the other thread regarding the new wave of itchy stuff Trev....guess i'm kinda going alittle 'Belt and Braces' with my view in truth. Mainly because so called 'intelligent' official people would fine throwing the blame at a name on a certificate easier than trying to workout calc (the ones we have to do).

It is however impossible to even try and cover all eventualities, Maybe i just tire of haveing to constantly watch me back incase yet another numpty tries to pass the buck to get themselves out of the mire.

Unfortunately we can only design our installations for the conditions at the time.
One thing worth considering is attach photographs to all certificates and keep on record for yourselves.
The fibreglass installers also have a duty of care when installing insulation.

Agree totally with what you say but how far should we have to go to cover our own ---!

I know you can spend hours. But with the ease of digital photography a few snaps of the CU, loft area, and any other bits
Will cost nothing just a bit of time. It has helped me a few times. Damaged sockets and paint work. Normal stuff.
