This new EPC arrangement is causing us some problems, particularly with commercial jobs where the EPC can be ÂŁ250-400 a pop, which is a fair size chunk out of the profit margin if we're having to do this twice on jobs we've already contracted for.

on domestic, we're doing our first job tomorrow that we've not had a preassessment for, and I'm pretty certain it should get a D with the PV on it, but now the householder has queried why we've not got it done in advance, and I've got a squeeky bumcheeks thing going on with it.

TBH I really can't see what DCLG are trying to achieve by this measure, and don't see the difference between what we were doing, and assessors being allowed to accept stuff like insulation certs as evidence that a certain level of insulation has been installed. It's ****ing me right off though.

any pearls of wisdom appreciated.

No pearls of wisdom, I'm afraid, but I do have sympathy.

We've had our first job miss out on a D rating last week and we're struggling to get it through. The lady of the household is crippled with MS and her husband is getting visibly stressed and upset by the situation. Thank God it was relaxed to a 'D' rather than a 'C'. We're now having to work out whether we can get it to a 'D' and sorting out if and how to pay for another EPC visit.

Another 3 failed last week! Totally fed up. Barking tweeting about increased sales - our rush is 4 jobs this month! There just doesn't seem to be much going on at all in our neck of the woods. Getting everything that we quote for that meets a D but they are few and far between.

Unless I'm 100% certain the EPC is going to hit D I won't go ahead with ordering anything for installation. If the margins are tight as I think I'd suggest you discuss the extra cost with your customer. The new "rules" have come in since you agreed your price so it's out of your control.

Margin issues have been brought home to us again this weekend. A waterproof box supplied by a wholesaler turned out not to be waterproof and today is being spent 2hrs from the office sorting everything out. Our margins have allowed for this, it was an installation in Feb where margins were still ok if not great. If the margins keep dropping how on earth will we be able to afford to go back and sort something like this out?
