Hello, I'm thinking of repairing my microwave but I've gotten a lot of advice that its unwise. I know HV capacitors can store lethal amounts of energy but what would happen if you were to touch it accidentally with the microwave running vs off?

You've answered your own question.

If you don't know how to do it safely leave well alone.

Sorry - but this is extremely dangerous and also there is usually carcinogentic materials in their too so the risks are not just from the electrical side or the microwave risks.

In the interest of common sense due to the nature of the question, I'm closing the thread... advice should not be given for messing about with the internal workings of a microwave, if you need to ask the question in the first place whether it is safe then you are not knowledged or competent enough to do so!

Hopefully my abrupt response has cleared up your query to the potential hazards in doing so.
