How deep can you channel into walls?

Hi, just wondered if anyone knew how deep you can channel into a wall? Does this come under electrical regs, or building regs?

Look at the OSG, Horizontal and vertical chanels differ in max permissable depth. Not got the book to hand, sorry.

Building regs part A, and its 1/3 vertical and 1/6 horizontally of the wall thickness

Which in reality, would be hard to reach installing a few cables.

Cheers for the info, probably only need to go about 30-35mm so should be fine in most walls.

Just deep enough to cover cables/capping and not too deep to come through other side!

If your on about a 100mm skin of brick, then unless you're including the plaster depth, you are on the limit at 33mm vertically and over horizontally

If you go by the regs saying that cable have to be 50mm or more deep if they are not RCD protected and a brick is approx 100mm deep that would be a bit more than 1/6 to 1/3 that Amp Dave said..

Which is why most people use steel conduit or bung an RCD in line.

Easy get out clause.
