As it says really, Just read that the 2330/ nvq is changing so you'll have to be working in the industry to be classed as nvq qualified, anyone know when this is likely to happen? I've Got my level 3 2330, but don't work in the industry. How would I get my NVQ, any ideas. My house Needs work such as Garage electrics, lights re - wire, could these be used as experience for NVQ. If I got a sparkie to give me some experience could this help or do I have to go back to college? Any advice appeciated.

Hi ,NVQ is already work based related (need to be working in the trade either full time or in your spare time). This is because you have to provide evidence of the jobs needed to complete each section i.e Ensure site safety (Health & safety),diagnose & correct faults & so on.You have to provide evidence such as method statements, risk assesssments, photos of different things to correspond with the section of your portfollio that your working on.In these photos they like you to be in them just to prove that it is you actually doing the job & not just taking pictures of random installations also you have to book an appointment for an assesssor of some sort to come & look at what your actually doing.Your evidence also has to be all signed by the APPROVED electrician that you are working for.Its a pretty long drawn out procedure if done right, when i was doing it recently i was told a minimum of 6 month & maximum of 2 year to complete it.so answer to your question really is there is no quick way unfortunatly,

minimum time allowed to complete Nvq3 is 10 weeks maximum upto 2 years from enrollment, you can do it as self employed or sub-contracting or working for a firm, as long as you can get the evidence together just get on with it - some internet training providers dont do site visits either.

Did mine through local college and it was free, took 12 weeks to complete but most of it was answering internet questionaire and waiting for verification before moving on to next part. Also had two site visits.

You mean you used other peoples evidence and put your name and new date on them??

no mate, my own evidence and my own name it`s just i had all the evidence i needed but i had done it too quickly. i had the jobs done and work completed with the evidence but could not put it all in at once due to the minimum time. as it was i was asked why i had done it so quickly when some people take two years. i had a load on and wanted the cert thats why it was done so quickly, as i had the l3 2330 going at the same time, a teaching qualification, i re-did my english and maths to get me up to speed, my other half was in hospital two weeks at a time 3 times with two kids at home, my dad was in intensive care after a heart opperation that nearly went wrong, and the 2391. so not much really :D

Oh right i see, so they allowed you to write up about previous work.
Could i ask who you done it with? Im just deciding to use VQ Training, have been doing an apprenticship with an employer before falling out with them and have been doing alot of work, was unsure if i could use this evidence after i had signed up.

Just wondering then....should I be worried about the 2330 changing? will I be able to add the NVQ L3 to my 2330 L3 at anytime in the future if I get work / experience in the industry? I'm just worried that I'll have wasted my time / money if the 2330 becomes obsolete.

2330 qual will always count, and when it is replaced options will become available for anyone who started to complete under either the old 2330 or the new qual to become fully qualified.

that's put my mind at rest, been worrying I might have wasted my time doing my 2330. It's good to know it will still allow me to get fully qualified in the future if i can get the practical experience.

You mean self employed working as a one man band, or self-employed working alongside other electricians? Thought your work had to be signed off by an approved supervisor (i.e. a boss). How does it work if you are self-employed and just work on your own, e.g. domestics?

various ways, you could:
a. sign yourself as your the qualified supervisor
b. team with another spark and get him to sign
c. get signed by your scheme provider (what i did - although you need to have passed two x yearly inspections )

probably other ways to do it also, not sure if theyre all lagit or just workarounds but it was the assesor who gave me the options before i enrolled.
