It's almost a certain that this question would have been asked many time before but I couldn't find any posts after having a quick look so I'll ask again!
Would anyone be able to offer any guidance or answer my questions about getting a JIB or ECS (not sure what the difference is?) for a newly qualified electrician.
I've completed me college exams which I think was the 2330 level 2 and 3 course, not too sure, and I have sat my AM2 and recently finished my NVQ level 3. Are these courses all I need to get my sparks card? If so, is it possible to apply for it myself? Not too sure my employers are keen on helping me out with it as the pay rise question will be inevitably asked by me.

Any and all advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance! :smart:

ECS is the electrician's equivalent of the CSCS card IE it's all about H&S. Your JIB card will tell an employer A) that you're qualified and B) to what level.
The info on what quals and experience get you what grading is all there on the JIB website mate.
As long as you have your certs you can apply for it yourself, I think there's a downloadable form but if your employer is willing to pay for it let them crack on, saves you a few beer tokens:)

The JIB determine your grade by assessing your experience , not just qualifications , which many prospective applicants seem to forget.
Yes you can apply for an ECS card yourself but will need references from current / recent employers outlining our capabilities / skills.
The only way to find out is to fill out the forms and apply as it can be a bit of a lottery.
