Can anyone tell me how to install a hottub outside, just been up the dear mothers boyfriend has decided to wire it up himself and being a spark myself but without any experience with these things the way he`s on about wiring it up is gona caus him problems!!!

The way he`s going to do it,

Coming off an old garage supply which he`s gona change to a B type 20amp Mcb not protected by an Rcd.
But he`s on about using 6mm T+ E that used to run to a garage into a junction box then come out in 6mm SWA.
Into a 63amp Rotary Isolator from there to another junction box where he`s gona come outa there in flex to an outside light then SWA to the tub.

The way i said to do it!!!

Come straight from the board on a B 25amp Mcb with Rcd protection in SWA 6MM using sheath as earth and one of the cores staight to a 13amp fused spur then to 45amp rotary isolator then to hot tube!!
The light id probably come off existing outside lights supply!!!

Thats with no experience with this sort of thing, please tell me if im wrong as i know my mothers boyfriend totally is as i wouldnt put a fish in the thing let alone a person!!!

Not sure what you are using the 13amp fused spur for

I don't know of any hot tub that could be wired from a 13A spur unit most tubs require a supply of 20 - 30A

I know this isnt right,but ive seen one run off a standard 13a plug,plugged into conservatory socket,RCD protected,roughly 12 metres of 2.5 T & E from plug to tub,connected straight into the tub,old wine barrel type of tub,as far as i know,its been o k the last three years,lights inside,whirlpool,the works..

From the board s/w/a to an isolator.
Cable calc needed as said above..............
2.5 hmmmmmmmmm (fire) so no no.
Rcd, most defo yes, and dont forget the depth of the cable in the garden.
For the breaker size it depends on what power the tub will pull.

Example: (30amp breaker/ 6mm swa in the ground and marked up, to an isolator outside. Also remember the distance from tub to isolator.

Ello eco, mate, not sure if you realise,or if i made it clear enough, but i wasnt recommending this way of installation, just commenting on what ive come across, maybe i should have stated,Ive never had to install one, though enjoyed my time in a couple, but the one i mentioned,in my blog,i wouldnt get into, even though half sloshed, because it didnt fill my safety criteria, but would love to know the PROPER install method, from an expert,as ive got a few clients who would like it done,Drink in it for best and safest method,Drink as in a Teabag,

hope thats cleared things up,Old Son..

Be Lucky!!

But do agree....

6mm (min) swa..(down to calcs).RCD @ Board..If not Then @ Isolator,Breaker=Tub power+diversity(if Applicable-Why not?)

Easy...If ya know where ta look...(still looking)

Cheers mate, but he`s adamant he wants to use the 6mm T+E that was the old garage supply so he doesnt have to drill any new holes!!!
And could would a RCBO be ok instead of an rcd????

Thanks for all your posts, the way he`s doing it now is using a 32amp Rcbo at the board coming from there in 6mm T&E into a junction box then out of the junction box in 6mm SWA to the rotary isolator then to the hottub,.
The only trouble is the light he wanrts to install, is it possible to come out of the rotary isolator into a ip rated fused spur then to a ip rated light switch for the out door light, other than that i take it , its gona need another feed!!!
