Hello All,
I am not an electrian but work in IT data installations.
I am soon to move into a 2x bed bungalow and need to get the electrics updated.
The property was buit in the 1960's and I belive the wiring is mostly original.
I believe it would need the consumer unit replaced, some existing cabling/switches/sockets replaced and new lighting and sockets added (probably 8x new sockets and a couple of light fittings
I wondered can anybody please advise on a very rough cost for this, are we talking in the £2,000 area, £4,000, £6,000 or more? Just a rough guide for an average 2 bed bungalow
Best Regards.

round about £3500 - £4000 unless you want fancy stuff like stainlesss steel accessories, AV, etc. these would inflate the cost.

Not sure what you have in mind & some here would disagree, but I would ensure I had a complete rewire. Cable manufacturers under warranty their cables, and only suggest a 20 year life span, which is quite conservative. But yours being some 50 years old, nows the time to do it, which would the price telectrix gave you I think.
And have it done before you move in.

I agree with Midwest , depending on your age , could you really be bothered to go through it all again in say fifteen years time if problems started with the old wiring, or if it knocked you back on a future sale.
