I've been reading the website thread posted earlier, there are some very good tips in it.

How much work does a good website attract and do others in your area have great websites?

No way !! You will spend lots of time giving free quotes and info etc . Advertising is best left to happy clients .

A good website can portray the professional image of a large or small company, just look at some of the big/small names that’s out there.

If you have a website that does not look like too much effort has been put into then you may get over-looked by customers that think that you may also put the same effort into your work.

How do you get the clients to make happy in the first place?

Pre internet and mobile phones !!!!

But i tried another little business 5 years ago . All i did was get my time wasted. People call you in and get as much as possible from a "pro" then use that info to get the job done cheaper etc. The amount of wasted visits i had was terrible.

I prefer to hear " so and so recommended you" that way i know they earn good money !!! and will be happy to use me . Most of them have been raped by the likes of Pimlicos and other london based companies.

Try to think of your website as a way to GRAB ATTENTION to your potential prospects or customers.

If a prospect or a customer doesn't know you, or the services you have to offer then how can they buy into them?

They can't and it's as simple as that!

I totally agree with willyj and if your site looks poor and put together with no effort, you are effectively creating an impression that your services or products are also of poor quality and prospects will often just overlook you.

Remember though, a person has got to know you exist before they'll even consider contacting you.

Personally speaking I think that any trader or business that chooses not to embrace the internet and have some online presence in the form of a website is just leaving money on the table!

Looks alright. I personably would drop the top…No Call out charge No Labour charge No Contract… bit from the home page. Apart from that. COOL!

I am just about to get our website revamped (Acenda Lighting Maintenance.) l would appreciate if some of you guys could visit it and give your honest opinions on it, l wont take offence honest. Cheers

AS mentioned. MIGHT ?????? be a good idea to remove the No No NO bit . But all in all its a good site.

But....do people need to reed so much info?

And what % of calls and visits do you find just to be wasted?

I find when someone you know recommends someone you have far more trust . This is how i trade, But i am a lot smaller than you guys and kind of like it this way !

yeh i agree with the top bit no no no bit and just for the call out charge bit i dont see how some people try and charge call out, its only if you are on site and are called away if you arrange a time for work its an appointment in which case you wouldnt been called out of site in the 1st place. but im just rambeling on

A call out is when they need you ASAP. How you leave the job your working on i do not know ! But its a good thing to establish with the customer what they will be paying for you to attend ,

The honest answer is I simply don't know! I've had my site for 10 months now and not yet got any "leads" from people doing searches.

On a local level, I'm one of the very few who does have a website and I do wonder if people who I leaflet/give my card to, then go and look at my site to get a better idea of what I'm about.

Hope this helps.

If done in the right way a website can make a big difference in bringing in business. It can bring hundred's of people to your website each month who would not otherwise be aware of your existence. But you have to make sure you are appearing towards the top of the search engines (otherwise no-one will find you) and that you have a decent website.
