not how much would you charge for your sister!
mother and father renting house off my sister they got a quote on a rewire £2500 for 3bed house using pvc capping everywhere.
thinking of using it for registering on scam part p.
was thinkng of just charging for materials as unemployed at the moment and plenty of time but i was thinking of partial rewire making more ring circuits change board etc.

speaking to sister she sounds like she wants alot more done.
would you charge your sister?
sister maried to a lawyer own 2 houses have a few quid.
me skint have to pay scank part p council insurance petrol etc.
moral dilema?

I would definitely charge sister, unless you have any legal battles looming, which you may need a lawyer for.

Lawyers charge about £200 per hour, so be reasonable, i would say £100 per hour. They charge about £90 for a letter, so your EIC, schedule of inspections, and schedule of test results is worth about another £150.

But seriously, why shouldn't you charge your sister?

Do her a good deal, £2200 all in, depending on which part of the UK you are in.

Cheers...........Howard

Charge her a bit less than the quotes she's had and do a first rate job, everyone's happy then. Obviously I would never recommend a discount for cash with a nominal amount declared to HMRC.

If it suits your ends work out a fair price with her, don’t work for nothing.

Get her to pay for the materials and then pay you an hourly rate for the install. If she’s reasonable (mine isn’t) then she knows it’s going to be up to scratch (you need it to be for your assessment).

You both win if you both sensible.

I'm sorry i'm the old fashioned kind, and at the pit you had what was called "family" rates, which basically was bugger all.

I've never charged family, which I suppose is why I'm out here lol. But for me family is important and I know that if I ever wanted anything from my family I would get it. Funny enough my daughter is a lawyer and my eldest daughter had some problems with an neighbour, and her sisters firm sorted it out for nothing.

I suppose really not every family is like ours, if you are not particularly close then charge her a fair rate, and she will know you will do her a good job. If you decide on the family rate of nothing, then just the materials.

This spreads over to fellow tradesman. I've rewired theirs and their families house for nothing, but I have yet to pay ever for painting my house, plastering my house, outside fences or the new central heating and boiler fitted.

Suppose family rate is like the old barter system, sadly like that system it seems to be on the way out

How about a solution that satisfies everyone?

Charge her for materials plus the cost of scheme membership plus the cost of insurance. This should be less than £2k?

Sister gets a cheap rewire and the feeling that she has helped you start up on your own. You get a full year of expenses paid for by doing a couple of weeks work and then you can set up on your own, any part p job you do in the next year is all profit without putting in any cost for scams & insurance. Good luck mate.

i think ille charge materials and some of the cost of scheme membership, maybe put price up on materials so it don't look like she's forking out for all my membership.
if i cost it as if it was going to be signed off by labc so materials and test.

Plus a few quid for a well deserved beer for when you pass your assessment:thumbsup

I wouldn't doctor the prices, why keep anything from your sister? Tell her how it is as she is not going to get the job completed any cheaper and surely she wants to see you do well?

If it's a full rewire then doing it alone is going to be a challenge, even more so if it is occupied at the time. If it is occupied then at least your family know that you can be trusted and know that they won't have to worry at being at the property whilst the work is being carried out which may cost them money or holiday from work?

Different story if it was just fit a light or add a new circuit but a rewire? be fair to yourself :thumbsup

The lad will need a beer if his sister is anything like mine!

thekingiam, talk it through with your sister, only you and her can make an agreement.

We can only offer suggestions.

(We’ll be having a marriage guidance forum next). Dear forum members, “my wife…….

I'd charge my sister double what i would charge everybody else just for the torture and pain she put me through as a child, and more recently that she is shagging my best mate..... :)

use your noggin tel her to get some quotes and then do it £800 cheaper you wil be quids in and they will owe you a favour lol

she is running the house as a business, so the rewire will be an overhead. as previous posts, do it for a sensible price, so that 1. she gets it at a reduced cost. 2, you make wages and use it for your elecsa assessment. everybody's a winner.

I wouldn't do it for free - she's not letting your parents live there for free so why would you do the rewire for free.
The price would depend on what kind of customer your sister is - if she just leaves you to get on with it do it for less, but if she's one of these who think they're doing you a massive favour by letting you work on their property and because you're family they think they can throw in a load of extras and change their mind at the last minute do it for just under the other estimates.
