contacted my LABC earlier for some info on self certification jst untill i get a couple of jobs behind me for NICEIC, he said they had to contract the inspection out to another firm who charge £500 quid plus for each job.... what sort of un acountable cash is that...!!!!

Blimey, that's a bit steep!!!! That's the price I'd expect a DIY'er to have to pay.

What are your qualifications? 'Cos I've got a part P qual. and 17th edition, my local LABC's (Wolverhampton, Dudley and South Staffs) class me as a competent person who can raise a cert. for the work carried out. Wolves and Dudley therefore charge £30-40 for a notifiable job. They don't get off their arses to do a site visit - money for old rope for them. For Wolves, I must send a photocopy of my qualifications in with the notification and Dudley just want a copy of the cert. when the work is done. South Staffs want around £120 per notifiable job, so I'm avoiding them till I'm on a scheme!

exactly what a joke.. it was definetly an amount i over looked in my business plan. thought about try n get work in another district that's cheaper or do the part p course if it's cheaper and excludes me from paying LABC or whoever..

What about doing the notifiable in your own home. When you pass certify it yourself if you are unfortunate to fail for any reason notify building control as an emergency job within 30 days:eek:

i sat a 4 year aprentaship and gained city&guilds 2330 level3, and plan on doing my 17th as soon as possible, i did think my qualification was enough to deem me as competent?, i never thought part p was this much back ground hassel

i'm not quite following u there chris?

Legally you are required to notify LABC of any notifiable work before it starts, unless its deemed an emergency.

So for example if your assessment is on Thursday and the Mrs just happens to smash the plastic cover of your CU on Wednesday that could be construed as an emergency so change the CU and when you pass you can then certify it, if you happen to fail notify LABC as normal.

If you can prove you are competent, then LABC charge £120 ish for notifiable work.

Thinks its about time that the likes of NIC and elecsa had some sort of pre assessment period where you are exempt from having to get the LABC involved. As long as you pass your assessment, then you can self certify the few jobs you have done. If you don't pass you have to get the LABC to come in.

best way to get round that is to try and find a job for an extention, as building control have already been notified of the work and the homeowner will have already paid the LABC fees, and then you just fill in your cert, pass it to the customer along with a copy of your qualifications for the building inspector to see when he signs off the buiding work, thats what i did for my two jobs.
