I was taught that you should upgrade the bonding before carrying out any works on a property. The reg says that it should be 'adequate', but, looking at some of the comments on the forum, as long as you leave the installation in no worse a condition than you found it then that is ok? Maybe someone can confirm??

I would say doesn't need upgrading as long as currently installed, as long as all your new bits meet current regs and you've done all you can to push them to having it upgraded. If you went along and there was NO main bonding at all then it needs putting in to meet current standards, otherwise I would walk away.

That the same with me, But this company as been giving quotes to their customers without even asking an electrician to survey the property first. And the imprestion I get is they want me two put my head on the block by cutting corners so they can keep their prices down.

He even told me they use to have an electrician round to price at the same time as them selfs but it scared the customers off. I'm not into doing half hearted jobs.

Try and find another company as quickly as possible it's a slippery slope, learning bad habits etc, not saying you have or you will but it starts to grate and you'll find yourself getting more and more frustrated trying to make things legit

Most kitchen companies i work for do that.

I now ask what they have "allowed" for alterations, and if its not enough, i refuse the job.

They soon come running

were quite fortunate as most of the work we do is insurance work, and they want it right each and every time - no corners cut.
where as on other jobs they dont want to pay for an rcbo never mind bonding - they pay or we leave.

It just seems as if most companys are trying it on at the mo. I was starting to think it was just me, but my price seems to be very fair compared to other I know in the area.
