How often does test gear need replacing?

Is there any legislation regarding what test gear can be used for testing. Do the pros have to replace their test kit every now and then or can they use old kit provided its calibrated?

As long as she's well looked after and regularly calibrated, keep her going as long as you can.

Age doesnt come into it - unless it impacts on one of the above. It ranks just above colour but behind price. Meters are tools. Its knowing how to use em that counts

Totally agree, why replace perfectly good servicable equipment. 16th edition & 17th edition tester: is there any real difference?
An insulation tester will always test Insulation resistance, bells & whistles only complicate matters.
